Evaluation

My final project for the digital poster was really weak. It was too plain and simple. There were not enough effects to make it visually exciting and it was too much like an advertisement rather then an exciting promotional poster.

I decided to use the face and a texture in separate screens so when the colour of the texture changed the colour of the woman’s make up would change to match. I decided to use textures on the opposite screen as I thought it could represent different things you could scan, like the snakeskin texture could have been a snakeskin bag, and the red silk could have been a red silk dress etc. I went with this idea as I feel in the app I designed, the strongest feature was that you could scan a colour that you have seen and might like with your phone and it would find you the closest matching product M.A.C could offer. It would also show you what it would look like on a photo of yourself that you could upload.

I believe this is the strongest feature in the app and most unique feature but it could have been represented in a stronger way in the posters. I don’t think the digital posters would catch your eye when going up or down the escalators in a train or tube station because it doesn’t even change that rapidly. In the posters that I have demonstrated the images change about every two seconds and that’s quite a long time to try and grab someone’s attention quickly. If a person were to glance at it, it probably wouldn’t even change by the time they would look away. It appears to be too much of a still poster, it’s not clear that it’s not a ‘flat’ poster and that it does change.

I do like the use of colour in this though. I think the each colour individually are very bold and eye catching.

This is all really down to bad time management on my part. I spent so long working on the app I didn’t leave much time to work and improve on the digital poster. I should of planned my time more appropriately in order to have got to a successful outcome as this was only my third Idea and I should of come up with a lot more before continuing on with the project.

Poster

This was my first finished poster design. After feedback it was found that the eye shadow changing colour wasn't noticeable at all. You couldn't tell anything had happened, but the lipstick changing colour was noticeable. I would of just stuck to changing the lip colour but there's only so many colours you can put on lips to portray lipstick. Even if i did bodly go for using blues and greens and other colours that you wouldn't normally find in a make up, would of changed the perception of the posters i believe. For example if i used a blue 'lipstick' on the image i think it would of looked like it was advertising that M.A.C sells blue lipstick now because its so unordinary to see. I don't think viewers would think that it was that colour for no reason and not to advertise that shade of lipstick.

RED

I think this red satin works really well. The fact that its material relates to the app even though the app is not about material or clothes in any way i see them as similar fields. Beauty, Cosmetics and fashion are all image related. I think the colour of the red is really rich and eye catching and the shiny effect of the silk appears very luxurious. And i believe it's easy to spot that the lipstick matches this as it's such a bold colour.

BLUE

Not sure that the blue eye shadow is very noticable.

GREEN

I really like the richness of this green and this texture. It makes me think of a pair or snake skin cowboy boots or a snake skin bag. It's a good bright colour to be able to match with an eye shadow also so that the eye shadow can stand out.

PINK

PINK

I think the car looks cheep and tacky and not what i want the application or digital poster to be associated with.

PURPLE

I like the idea of using a strong colour purple as i do see it as a feminine colour and the app has a very girly feel and makeup is a female dominated product. But i think if i where to use this bag in a split screen vieweres would be confused at what was being advertised. The bag? or The make up?

RED

I think if i were to use this car in a separate screen from the model image it would appear that the car is what was being advertised. It would have to be cropped in some sort of way so that it was so apparent or clear that it was a car. Especially with the white background it looks as if the car is what is being advertised, it's a stronger image then the face.
With the posters i have in mind to do i imagine them on the digital posters you find when using the escalators in train and tube stations. I think being repetative will make it more noticeable and have a stronger impact.

The models vest could change colour and her make up could match it every time it changes to show that you can match colours. You can match the colour of your clothing
